Following on the heels of Composite paintings is this new off-shoot of Inuit Influences aptly called Inuit/Sandy Influences. The concept is the same: layering or meldingdivergent images together. I was hugely energized by the Calder & Abstractions show at the Peabody Essex museum at the end of last year. Sandy has always been on the top of my favorite artists list . Seeing his simple, soulful, humorous, elegant and biomorphic forms made me realize that Inuit imagery and his have much in common. I am driving home the connection to his work by using his signature palette of primary colors (esp. red) balanced with strong black and white.
